I'mmm Baaaackk!!

College is finally over - yes, I graduated! Yay! No more homework ever, ever, ever!

I want to say hello to everyone! I apologize for being unavailable for the past semester, but now I have returned :) It is nice to see your shining faces once more.

I am still trying to slow my brain down because I went from 80 MPH to almost 0 MPH and that kind of gave me a heart attack. But I am slowly getting into the routine of working and getting back into reading (writing soon to follow, yay!). I finished Gary Chapman's The Five Love Languages today. My boyfriend and I have both read it now and I think it's going to push our relationship to that next level. I'm excited about it.

Has anyone else read that book? What were your thoughts on it?

Goodness Me!

Hello to my new followers. I am glad you have joined us :) We tend to have some good times. Well, at least I do! Comment as you please.

It's another week of school and work for me, except this week I'm working over-time (as opposed to my usual 25 hour work week). It's going to be interesting. I woke up with awful stuffiness on Saturday (?) and still have that going on, which gives me constant headaches and makes me tired.

On a happier note, I got to wear shorts today!!! Too bad I've lost weight and will now have to buy new ones. Usually that's a good thing, to lose weight, if that's what you are going for, but these shorts are super cute and I've only had them for one summer. Oh well. They were cheap-o cute anyway. But the good part of that was that it was warm enough (76 degrees) to wear shorts! I was really excited. Although now I'm sitting at work in the very cold video room with a blanket over me lol

We are workshopping our short stories in class on Thursday. Well, maybe I should say that we are giving copies out to our workshop group members. They have to go home over the weekend, read them, and give feedback. So next week I'll be reworking One Last Thing, maybe even in first person POV so I can have enough rough drafts. (When we turned in our poetry portfolios, I got counted off for not having enough drafts of each poem. Silly.) So I'll make sure and post a "final" copy of the story on here after I rework it. Well, I don't promise because I'll most likely forget lol

But you guys have been great. Thanks for all the feedback. It helps. If you would like to see a certain element or see me experiment with something different in the story, just say so. I take everything into consideration.

This New Life of Mine

HEY!

So I'm officially all moved into my new apartment. Well, except for the random times when my mother comes over with a whole new load of decor lol. It's great having parents who have nice things that they give you when you're a broke college student :)

My apartment is really cute. My color theme is orange, dark green, black, and beige (all the walls are bland beige). It's turning out well. My cat had issues the first few days, but now she's running around crazily like she owns the place. I thought I would have issues sleeping alone, but I haven't yet (knock on wood). I was expecting that because I've never slept alone in a house before except when my parents were out of town. It's nice.

I'm still so busy with school at the moment. Spring break is next week and I'm looking forward to catching up on homework. I don't like taking it one day at a time. I'd rather be a day ahead at least. Right now I'm working on a podcast project for one of my classes. We have to show that we can use GarageBand. It's a really crappy app, just incase you were wondering.

I'm writing a short story for one of my other classes. It's a tragedy, of course. I like tragedies. Once I finish it then maybe I'll post it :)

I have done zero reading. Sadness.

Other than that, nothing super huge.

Oh well, other than the fact that I have a boyfriend now! lol

Useless Update

Here's to me being super slammed with school, work, and moving. Just wanted to say hey to everyone - I haven't forgotten you! Where are you guys in the 50 Book challenge? I'm at a stand still because all of my books are packed up in order for me to move them to my new apartment on Monday (woohoo!).

I started reading Beka Lamb for my Senior Seminar class. Has anyone read that? I'm not sure how I feel about it.

Update me on what y'all are doing.

I am trying to finish BD 2 right now. It's coming along rather pleasantly! No huge bumps in the road yet, yay! Maybe I'll have it finished before November so I can write the next book for NaNo.

2010 Goal

Some people have resolutions for new years, but I have goals. Maybe they are kind of the same thing, but it makes me think of different ideals. For instance, a resolution someone might have is to lose weight, but a goal would be to lose 10 pounds. See the difference? Anyway, that isn't the point of this post.

The point of this post is to say that one of my super fun goals for 2010 is to read 50+ books. 50 is the minimum and if I hit that then I will be super happy. See, last year I put reading on the back burner for school and work, but now that I'm graduating in May, I will have a lot more time to do the things I want to do (which is not school).

NaNoWriMo Is Over

So I was thinking earlier that maybe I should take a breather and update my blog. I am sure that you are all wondering whether or not I won NaNo. Well, I did! Yay! And with one day to spare. I spent the last week catching up pretty hardcore. In short, #nanowordsprints on Twitter saved my life.

Anyway, that is all that I really have to say. My final papers are taking up all of my time when I am not living at work. Yes, living. Next week I work 1pm-midnight every day to get ready for the Christmas Production. Then the week after that I leave for my 3 week vacation in Alaska. That is what I am looking forward to and that is what I am using to get me through this last week.

I hope everyone who participated in NaNo is satisfied with their outcome, whether a win or a loss. Rochelle, you are a star no matter what. Same goes for Sarah. You ladies tried your best and will do it even better next year. Just keep working on those stories so I can read them :)

NaNoWriMo - Day 12

Hi there. *shuffles her feet quietly and waits for rebukes* I'm SO sorry for not updating about NaNo!! I actually haven't even gotten very far, especially where my goals are concerned. School is kicking my butt and I'm so behind with my studies, it's not even funny. Which means NaNo has been, unfortunately, placed on the back burner. It doesn't even feel like November anymore.

But no worries! I will reach my 50K no matter what, even if I have to shun the world on Thanksgiving and write it all then. I shall succeed!

I wanted to make up for my absence by posting an excerpt. Here is a small scene I wrote today during a 10 min study break. Comments are appreciated! :)

The three of them crouched in the bushes behind Argan’s house.

“Do you think they will leave?” Seth whispered.

“No,” Argan answered flatly.

Seth sat down in the dirt and crossed his legs. “So what do we do?”

Sepheira looked through the bushes at a small, fat male faery barking out orders to the others. “We go to the Cove,” she said.

“What’s the cove?” Seth asked. His eyes were staring up at the trees above him, crowding his view of the sky. He thought he had seen movement, but it was probably just the wind.

“The cove,” Sepheira said, keeping her gaze on the fat faery, “is where the other rebels are. It will be the safest place for us all. At least, until they find it.”

“Does that mean they are looking for it?” Argan asked.

“They will eventually. It’s only a matter of time.” She sat back hesitantly, not wanting to tear her gaze away from the awful scene at Argan’s cabin.

Argan turned his view to his right. “Did you hear that?”

Seth jumped to his feet in a panic. “Hear what?!”

Sepheira grabbed his left wrist roughly and yanked him back down. “If you don’t stay down and shut up, the faeries will be the ones hearing things,” she growled close to his face.

Seth slowly removed his wrist from her grip as a feeling began to bubble in his stomach - a feeling he had never felt before. “Sure,” he said, his voice cracking. He cleared his throat. When he spoke again, his voice was much deeper. “Sure thing.” He looked briefly at Sepheira and then back up to the trees. “Uh, is that what you heard?” He asked, pointing above him.

Sepheira and Argan followed Seth’s gaze. There were at least eight faeries, no larger than lawn gnomes, hanging from the trees above them. Their beedie yellow eyes stared down at the three of them.

“Run!” Sepheira screamed.

Seth didn’t hesitate. He was the first out of the bushes and sprinting through the woods.

Argan and Sepheira weren’t far behind him, but neither were the faeries.

Spring Already?

Apparently academic advising opened up this week for the Spring semester: aka my last semester! So, I went.

Here is what I was approved for:

Creative Writing <-- Super!

History of England <-- Snore (history is my worst subject)

Senior Seminar <-- Mandatory

Multimedia Authoring I <-- Slightly apprehensive

Eh?

Who knows what will come of these classes. I'm ready to find out though because that means I'll be only weeks away from graduation!

On another note.

Now that I'm not in high school anymore (and haven't been for almost four years), I don't really have much to talk/blog/write about because my life is no longer dramatized. (Anyone who doesn't think HS is filled with drama is SO mistaken.) Is that good or bad? What's your opinion?
